Scarlet Worm

Psa 22:6  But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of mankind, and despised by the people.

The Hebrew word for ‘worm’ is תולע ‘tola’ speaking of a crimson/scarlet colored worm.

Biblical Basis for Modern Science page 73
“When the female of the scarlet worm species was ready to give birth to her young, she would attach her body to the trunk of a tree, fixing herself so firmly and permanently that she could never leave again.  The eggs deposited beneath her body were thus protected until the larvae were hatched and able to leave and enter their own life cycle.  As the mother died, the crimson fluid stained her body and the surrounding wood.  From the dead bodies of such female scarlet worms, the commerical scarlet dyes of antiquity were extracted.

Heb 2:8  You subjected all things under his feet.” Psa. 8:4-6 For in order to subject all things under him, He left nothing not subjected to him. But now we do not yet see all things being subject to him;
Heb 2:9  but we do see Jesus crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death was made a little less than the angels, so that by the grace of God He might taste of death for all.
Heb 2:10  For it was fitting for Him, because of whom are all things, and through whom are all things, having brought many sons to glory, to perfect Him as the Author of their salvation through sufferings.
Heb 2:11  For both the One sanctifying and the ones being sanctified are all of one; for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brothers,
Heb 2:12  saying, “I will announce Your name to My brothers; I will hymn to You in the midst of the assembly.” Psa. 22:22

It is interesting to note that three days after the tola worm dies, the red spot on the tree dries out and turns white as snow.

Isa 1:18  Come now and let us reason together, says YHWH: Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red as the crimson {תולע}, they shall be like wool.

The Hebrew word תלה ‘tola’ is a homophone of תולע ‘tola.’  תלה means to hang, as in the Messiah on the tree.

Deu 21:23  his body shall not remain all night on the tree; but burying you shall bury him the same day. For he that is hanged is a reproach to God. And you shall not defile your land which YHWH your God is giving to you as an inheritance.
Gal 3:13  Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us; for it has been written, “Cursed is everyone having been hung on a tree;” Deut. 21:23

תלה comes from the root תל which is speaking of a rope made of twisted cords used for suspending something.  This is linked to the תלוע ‘tola’ worm as the Hebrew word for תולעה is speaking of a caterpillar or thread spinning worm which suspends itself from a tree.

The word תולע ‘tola’ is used 42 times in Scripture. This is pointing to the 42 generations of Messiah (Matthew 1:1-17). There were 14 generations from Abraham to David, and 14 from David to Babylon. Matthew 1:17 speaks of another 14 generations from Babylon to Messiah but if one counts the names there are only 13, the 14th generation is the seed of Messiah. His seed are those who are born again through Him by His work on the cross.

Psa 22:30 A seed shall serve Him; it shall be spoken of the Lord to the coming generation;

Isa 53:10 But YHWH pleased to crush Him, to make Him sick, so that If He should put His soul as a guilt offering, He shall see His seed; He shall prolong His days; and the will of YHWH shall prosper in His hand.

Isa 53:11 He shall see the fruit of the travail of His soul; He shall be fully satisfied. By His knowledge the righteous One, My Servant, shall justify for many, and He shall bear their iniquities.
