Approximate Fall Feast Days (pending final sighting of the New Moon of Seventh Month):
Yom Teruah/Trumpets: Evening of 9/10 thru evening of 9/11 (Blow the Shofar) (No work)
Yom Kippur/Atonement: Evening of 9/19 thru evening of 9/20 (No work, no food, no water, afflict your being)
1 Sukkot (Tabernacles): Evening of 9/24 thru evening of 9/25 (No work)
8 Sukkot/Shemini Atzeret: Evening of 10/1 thru evening of 10/2 (no work)
It is possible (but not likely) that the first crescent sliver of the new moon will be seen from the Land of Israel the evening before (9/9/2010). However, the odds are very slim.
Conversely, it is very likely that the first crescent sliver of the new moon will be seen from America the evening before (depending on weather). Whenever this happens, it always makes for confusion.
There are good arguments to be made for local sighting of the first crescent sliver, and if you feel convicted to keep local sighting, then that is between you and YHWH. I do not consider it a major issue: it is simply a small matter of interpretation that will clear itself up when YHWH brings us back to the Land.
However, I always encourage people to go by the sightings from the Land of Israel, because there is no other way to stay in time with the festivals as they are happening in Jerusalem. In other words, there is no other way to stay in synch with YHWH’s time.
WIth the matter of the sighting of the first crescent sliver, those who go by local sighting can be off by approximately a day. However, with the matter of the Aviv barley, those who go by local sighting can be off by as much as six months (as barley in the Southern Hemisphere ripens 180 degrees out of synch with the barley in the Northern Hemisphere). We need to be in synch with YHWH’s time, because that is when He pours out His blessings.
Ma’asei (Acts) 2:1-4
2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Set-apart Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
