Did You Notice?……….”AND MOSHE LOOKED”

Learning to properly notice is so important that our God-given User Instruction Manual provides explicit guidance early in the third chapter of Exodus.
And the angel of God appeared to him (Moses) in a flame of fire
out of the midst of a bush; and, behold,
the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

And God called to him out of the midst of the bush,
and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here I am.
Remember this?  Does it sound familiar to you?
Well it shouldn’t.  It is not how the verses actually appear.
Here is how it really looks in your Bible:
And the angel of God appeared to him (Moses) in a flame of fire
out of the midst of a bush; AND HE LOOKED, and,
behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
(Exodus 3:2)

AND MOSES SAID, I WILL NOW TURN ASIDE AND
SEE THIS GREAT SIGHT WHY THE BUSH IS NOT BURNT.
(Exodus 3:3)

And WHEN GOD SAW THAT HE TURNED ASIDE TO SEE,
God called to him …
(Exodus 3:4)
Now I think you’ll agree that the famous incident read pretty well the first time I wrote it.  You probably didn’t even notice that I had omitted more than thirty words.
Yet, the good Lord saw fit to include all those words.  Why?  What do they add to the story?
They add very little to the story.  But the Bible is not a story.  Instead it is a vital guidance system for successful living.  And as a guide to life, those missing words are crucial.
They teach us that what made Moses the right choice for God to guide to greatness was that HE NOTICED.  Ancient Jewish wisdom mentions that hundreds of others had passed that way and ignored what appeared to be an ordinary fire.
Develop your own noticing skills by trying several times a day, to recreate in your mind with as much detail as possible, scenes you’ve just witnessed.

BIBREV COMMENT:  I believe that this erudite observation by Rabbi Lapin also confirms why Truth is withheld from some (even) serious searchers.
The Bible has it all ready for us.  But how do we read it:
– like those who preceded Moses past the bush, never querying the obvious?
– or like Moses, turning OFF his set route (normal way of reading) to go and observe WHY (delve deeper into the seeming mystery).
God subsequently honoured his real and true interest to come to the root of the unknown by REVEALING Himself to Moses at this astounding occasion.
How many of us reason like the passers-by?  O, it is just another fire, even though it was not normal.  They simply accept the obvious – like the letter of the Scriptures – they do not turn off the normal investigation route to check out what’s really behind the obvious.
When God sees that the searcher really goes out of his/her way to investigate, He reveals the hidden Truths.
May this inspire you to "walk another mile" to find Truth.
